The latest version of Ad-Aware is 8.1.3. To check which version you are using click the 'About' button at the bottom right. In the window that opens you can see the version number just below Ad-Aware. If you are using an older version just click 'web-update' to download and update to the latest version.
The main fix in this latest version is a decrease in the GUI launch time.
If you are using Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition Plus or Pro:
Click on the 'update now' button to download the latest Ad-Aware installation file. The link will redirect to the Ad-Aware Free page on Download.com. Note: The installation file for Ad-Aware Free (Ad-AwareInstallation.exe) is the same as for Plus and Pro.
Once downloaded, double click the installation file and follow the installation wizard. At the end of installation your license will be automatically be activated and transfered to Ad-Aware 8.1 .
This is a free update at no extra cost.
The scan freeze issue you are experiencing could be caused by a recent update to Norton, we are currently working with Norton to resolve this issue.
Until this is resolved, please try the following before scanning with Ad-Aware:
Go into Settings in Norton and turn off the Norton Product Tamper Protection.
Ad-Aware should now be able to complete the scan.
If you're experiencing a 'connection error' when clicking web-update please try updating from the start menu (Start->All Programs->Lavasoft->Ad-Aware and click 'Ad-Aware Updates') or use one of the workarounds below.
1. Go to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware and right click onAAWService.exe, select properties in popup menu and in the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (service Pack 2)" , click ‘apply’ then ‘ok’. Do the same for Ad-AwareAdmin.exe and then retry the web-update.
