New Rogue: CleanUpAntivirus

by LS Anders on March 15th, 2010 in Rogues, Security Alert.

CleanUpAntivirus is a new rogue anti-spyware application. It is a clone of the SmartVirusEliminator family.

CleanUpAntivirus uses fake online scanners to scare the user into installing the application. Once installed it will detect several false infections and urge the user into licensing the software in order to remove these false infections. Like the other clones in this family, it will also block security applications from running by using the Image File Execution key in the registry.

Ad-Aware will detect CleanUpAntivirus as Win32.FraudTool.CleanUpAntivirus and Win32.FraudTool.SmartVirusEliminator.
