New Rogue: Antivirus09

by LS Anders on April 14th, 2009 in Rogues, Security Alerts.

Antivirus09 (or Antivirus’09) is a new rogue that follows the normal rogue procedure. It is distributed through a web page that presents the user with a fake online scanner.

This scanner will show lots of errors with a “high severity” level and offer the user to download software that will scan their machine for malicious files. In this case, the software is the rogue Antivirus09.

The program will then present a handful or so of false positives, often with a “high risk” level. The user must then register the software to remove these “threats”.

Standard, by the book rogue procedure.
