It’s not the kind of record any of us working to help computer users’ combat security and privacy threats, like our team here at Lavasoft, hopes to see being set:
Strasbourg is not only the capital principal city and the capital of the Alsace region in France - it’s also the seat of the European Parliament. Yesterday, March 26, it was the place where the privacy of Internet users and the fundamental freedoms on the Internet was subjected to voting.
If you follow online security news, there’s little chance that you haven’t heard about Conficker – a new worm that has received extensive media coverage in the past weeks, due in part to Microsoft’s offer of a $250,000 bounty in return for information leading to the arrest of the malware’s perpetrators.
This Saturday, March 28, is Earth Hour 2009. Everyone here at Lavasoft would like to encourage our users around the world to do your part, and vote! The idea is actually set up like a campaign. At 8.30 pm local time, wherever you live on the planet earth, you can “Vote Earth” and switch off your lights for one hour.
As a follow-up to our recent warning on misleading sites selling Ad-Aware – we’ve come across additional websites that you should be aware of as you browse the Web for the best deals.
The following sites are selling copies of Ad-Aware that are either not legitimate or are no longer supported by Lavasoft:
The Australian government is currently running a mandatory content-filtering trial in order to block child pornography and other content that is considered "improper". The filtering or "clean feed" is based on the Australian Communications and Media Authority's (ACMA) blacklist which contains addresses to websites that are prohibited.
An important notice for any users of our Ad-Aware SE software –
As of March 31, 2009, technical support and Definitions File updates will be discontinued for Ad-Aware SE Plus, Ad-Aware SE Professional and Ad-Aware SE Enterprise.
If you use Ad-Aware SE, please upgrade to the latest version of Ad-Aware – Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition – in order to stay protected from online threats; Definitions File threat updates for Ad-Aware SE will not be issued after the end of the month.
A word of caution to all of you online shoppers browsing the Web for the best buys: if it looks too good to be true, it just may be.
We’ve recently come across a website that is misrepresenting itself as a Lavasoft affiliate, and selling copies of our Ad-Aware Pro software that are not legitimate or supported by our company.
Be on the lookout: a new warning has been issued to consumers about economic stimulus scams via incoming e-mail and fraudulent websites.
