Threat Check

What types of threats have been plaguing computer users this past month? Take a look, below, at the top threats creating a buzz among Ad-Aware users in the Lavasoft Support Forums.

1. Win32.Trojan-Dropper.Delf
Win32.Trojan-Dropper.Delf is a generic family for Trojan droppers made in the Delphi programming language. A dropper is a type of malware that drops additional malicious files on the infected system. These files are often other Trojans or downloaders.

2. Win32.Backdoor.Sinowal
Win32.Backdoor.Sinowal is a backdoor that installs an MBR rootkit and can provide unauthorized access to the user’s machine. It will also attempt to monitor selected input and steal login information and passwords.

3. Win32.TrojanDownloader.Zlob
Win32.TrojanDownloader.Zlob is the "original" fake codec malware. It disguises itself as a media codec that is needed to be installed for the user to view a certain movie (often pornographic content). Once installed, the user will get a barrage of pop-ups and security warnings consisting mainly of casino advertisements and rogue applications.

4. Win32.TrojanDownloader.Agent
Win32.TrojanDownloader.Agent is a generic family for Trojans that download additional families on an infected system. A Trojan is a program that appears to do one thing but actually does another.

5. Win32.Backdoor.Agent
Win32.Backdoor.Agent opens up a backdoor on a compromised computer, allowing remote access and control of the victim’s machine.
